Yesterday afternoon, the Environmental Military Police (PMA) of Amambai conducted a surveillance operation on the Rio Amambai, between Amambai and Ponta Porã, resulting in the arrest of five individuals for illegal fishing during the piracema period. During the action, four men and one woman were caught fishing on the riverbanks, violating the restrictions imposed during the spawning season.
The piracema is a crucial period for the reproduction of various fish species, and fishing is prohibited as a measure to protect aquatic fauna. However, the detained individuals appeared to have ignored current environmental laws, attempting to carry out their fishing activities illegally.
Due to the infraction, all involved were arrested in the act, and their fishing gear was seized by authorities. Furthermore, they will face criminal proceedings for disregarding environmental regulations, subject to severe penalties according to current legislation.
